Geek help needed (posting Attachments)
Could someone please give a computer moron a plain English explanation of how to post pictures from "My Pictures" to a bbs post?

below the text box there is a section called "Additional Options." Under the heading "Attach Files" click on "Manage Attachments."
Click on "Browse," locate the .jpg or .gif picture on your harddrive and click on "Open." Click on "Upload."
That should do it.

Click on post reply.
Click on "manage attachments" (under additional options).
Click on "browse".
Locate and double-click on the file (40kb and 400x400 pixels size limitation apply here, if you also need help on those I'll do my best - you will get a warning after you click on upload if it the file exceeds any one of these limits)
Click on "upload".
Click on "close this window".
Click on "submit reply".
Does this work?

Gary--
What those guys said. All you need to do is find "Manage Attachments" at the bottom of the Post Reply form. What you do next is exactly like putting up an avatar using an image from My Pictures or creating an e-mail attachment using an image from My Pictures.
Note: You won't see your attached image or the word Attachment in your message until after you've posted the message. Until then, you won't even see them in Preview mode.
If you do get a prompt that your image is too large to be an attachment, I too can help (by reducing the pic). If that happens, PM me or give a yell here, and I'll send you my e-mail address.

Gary--
I just saw your inquiry in another thread. Is the image you saved in My Pictures still called horse.zip? That ain't gonna work. ".zip" is a file extension, and the valid file extensions for attachments are as follows:
bmp gif jpe jpeg jpg png psd
You're gonna need a geekier geek than I to tell you how to unzip it (?) and save it with a different extension.

Gary, following on to what Rita said, .zip files are compressed archives (usually, but not necessarily, of multiple files) - meaning that their contents must be extracted before they can be viewed in most cases. The "standard" windows-based Zip file handler used to be WinZip (I'm not sure if that's still the case, but I know WinZip is still out there), but there are lots of other utilities that can read zip files as well for a variety of platforms. Essentially, assuming your zip file contains images, you need to open said zip file with some extraction/decompression util, save the graphics files therein somewhere as individual files - you should then be able to post them to a BBS with the instructions posted earlier in this thread. I know that's probably not overly clear, but the details may well depend on precisely which utility you choose to download and try out for extracting the contents of a zip file. Most of them are pretty easy to use, honestly.

WinZip is the tool.
Gary, you can download Winzip from www.download.com. Then install WinZip. Unzip your "horse.zip" to "my documents" or a place you will locate easily. Your files won't be called "horse.zip", but many files with jpg or bmb or... extension.

Now you need a picture edit program. If you don't have any you can get one at www.download.com. Posters have posted their favorite in different threads. When this program is downloaded and installed, you have to open it and edit your picture, different tools are offered.
If you don't feel like "f**cking" with that right now, you can ask you favorite poster to do it for you.
(sorry, I can't do it for you right now, I'm at work and the picture editing program installed on this machine really SUCKS)

Gary--
Don't worry; you're apparently much closer. Go here to get the photo editor that Ron, Jesse, I, and no doubt many others use:
http://www.irfanview.com/
Or say the word, and I'll PM you my e-mail address. You'd then e-mail me your saved images as attachments, and I'd reduce them and either
--post them for you, or
--e-mail the reduced versions to you, whereupon you'd post them. That may seem silly, but on the other hand, you'd learn how to attach and post images.
How many horsey pics are we talking about?
What's their extension (the three letters after the dot) now?
I can reduce only two or three pics for you today. I could reduce more than that (within reason) tomorrow.

Gary--
I PMed you my e-mail address. I can reduce four pics today unless I run into some kind of trouble. In that case, I'll have to wait until tomorrow.
Please answer the Qs in my PM re what you want me to do after I reduce them.

Just realised my post isn't very clear. That's the photo I got via e-mail from Gary yesterday, which I assume is the same one he's been trying to post.
