You Decide!
The title of Roscoe Mitchell's Snurdy Mcgurdy and Her Dancin' Shoes piqued my curiosity, then I read Brian O's glowing review at allmusic....sold!
I'd like to make an order through Cadence, but it would be silly to spend $5 on S&H for just one cd. So, with your help, perhaps we can make it five.
Maybe some free-funk? I've been diggin' on Mirakle and McPhee's Nation Time recently; more of the same would be cool.
Or how about some high energy, unrestrained blowing a la John Law's Extremely Quartet, Brotzmann's LBHFH, and Parker's At The Vortex?

How about "Jump Up' by Oliver Lake, Julius Hemphill's "Body", anything by Pheeroan ak Laff, some Joe Bowie's Defunkt (especially the record that has "Train to the Plane")...that kind of stuff - oh yeah, something by Kelvyn Bell.

Chuck Nessa will sell this to you direct, you know. Wise choice, though, wherever you buy it from.
You got DANCING IN YOUR HEAD & TONE DIALING? Gotta have those!

Looks like Chuck and I sealed the deal with Snurdy McGurdy.
Prime Time has slipped under my radar to this point, Jim...On the to-get list for sure.
Exploding Customer also sounds like a no-brainer, as Nordeson never fails to excite me with AALY.

I've been listening to a cd called "Nova" a lot lately (on Mustevic, but forgot who's reissuing it) by a percussionist named Steve Reid, who I'd only heard on a Charles Tyler recording. The music ranges from advance post-bop to a really killin' funk feel to full-on free jazz. Ahmed Adbullah kicks ass on this one
note: looking at AMG right now, I noticed that there is another Steve Reid in the jazz category. Be very careful - that other Reid is a member of the Rippingtons - yuck.

Well, a lot of it can be skipped if you're not into the older stuff (although I'd also have to exclude BODY META from that; however, that's purely personal), but DIYH is just such an archetype (and, for anybody who heard it when it was first released and was not immediately repulsed, a life-changing experience, almost literally. At least it was for me.) and TONE DIALING such a fully realized "advanced" vision of parallel realities existing seperately in the service of a greater unity, that, in my opinion, these are the 2 (or 3) "must haves". Pretty strong and fully=formed visions going on in there, not to be missed, period
Sorry, I don't LIKE to make such grand pronouncements, not as a rule, but these 2 bring it out of me!

Tales of Captain Black by James "Blood" Ulmer would definitely have to be on my short list.

Not by choice, Jim, as I've only been listening to jazz for 3-4 years. The voids are slowly being filled in, but it takes time and $$$.

Sounds like that's right up my alley. Any tips on where I can obtain a copy?

Jason,
I picked up "Nova" at DMG, though I know Forced Exposure has it, too. The label was Universal Sounds, btw, which I think is somehow related to the Soul Jazz label.
btw, I second "Tales of Captain Black".
