"Free Jazz" mural in Marfa, TX
Thanks for all of your kind words regarding the design of Revenant's Albert Ayler box. The creative process that went into the box was, unto itself, a positive experience for all involved. In addition to designing/art directing the set, I collaborated with Satch Grimley to make a series of 10 improvised silkscreened prints that are used as the chapter headings in the hardcover book. The process of making these prints was so enjoyable and liberating artistically, that it led to a larger improvised work: a silkscreened mural. You can check out images of the mural and more here...

Beautiful, striking images.
I was contacted a few years ago to come and play some music in Marfa...I don't remember why it didn't work out. The Governer's Music Office contacted me, and I remember negotiating, but alas, no dice.
To know that this kind of place with this kind of art exists out there is amazingly wonderful.
Congratulations.

Beautiful, beautiful work!! I'm so glad I went on the site! Noel, the Ayler box looks so amazing. I was wondering what, if anything, you did to enhance your knowledge of Ayler, to "capture" his essence, so to speak, in the art you and your partner created. Were you already familiar w/ Ayler's work and life?

I love it. This could make Marfa a "destination."

thanks all...
jazzy mary, i was indeed familiar with Ayler and a fan before I worked on Holy Ghost. almost 2 years later, i am still so excited about being a part of the project. Dennis, Marfa is fantastic. you should try and get out there.

If you don't mind, Noel, and you have the time, I would love to hear more detail on your "creative process". For example, did you read a lot about Ayler, did you listen to his music as you were creating the art? How did you get this project? Sorry for all the questions, but I find the Creative process of visual artists utterly fascinating.
Do you sell your work to private collectors?
