The Law and Lamoille County

From the local rag:

Crying Nanny Leads to Coke Bust

Vermont State Trooper Lance Burnham responded Wednesday, November 3, to Cambridge after receiving a report of a "female crying beside the
roadway." Finding no one meeting that description, Burnham made
inquiries which led him to a local hotel. The proprietor pointed him to
the room where the woman, Hannah Everson, 21, later identified as a
nanny, was staying. According to Burnham, she gave consent for a search
of the room, which turned up 12 grams of cocaine, a scale, plastic
baggies and nearly $2,000 in cash.

Everson's employer, Richard Louis Reid, 31, of Bethlehem, GA (located
approximately 30 miles east of Atlanta), returned to the room shortly
afterwards with his brother-in-law, Jefferson McDaniel.
According to Burnham, Reid then confessed that the illicit drugs,
paraphernalia and cash were his, and that he had in fact consumed some
of the cocaine prior to leaving the room. Burnham stated in a press
release that "Reid transported the cocaine from the state of Georgia to
Vermont possibly with the intent to distribute." Reid was arrested on a
felony charge for possession of cocaine and lodged at the St. Johnsbury
Correctional Center. Everson and McDaniel, who stated that he had come
north simply hoping to do some snowboarding, were identified and released.

Trooper Burnham told this reporter that marijuana is the number one
illicit drug his department deals with on an ongoing basis, with heroin
in a close second place, followed by cocaine and ecstasy, with
methamphetamines in a distant fifth place. He also estimated that the
street price of powdered cocaine was currently around $100 per gram,
placing the value of this bust at $1,200.

If you and I had gotten to this bunch before Trooper Lance, we could have had a big ol' time next door at Robbie's Wildlife Refuge.
