How the mind works

Yesterday we went to a funeral of a friend who got West Nile, was hospitalized for several days and was partially paralyzed. After he had a bit of recovery, he returned home. A few days later while he was walking, he fell and broke his arm. Last Wednesday, he was walking alone in a riverbed park, he fell and was drowned.

The funeral was in a white Baptist Church, all that I could think of was when they played Amazing Grace and Abide With Me why the congregation didn't swing and where were Rahsaan Roland Kirk and Theolonious Monk when we needed them?

Sorry about your friend Clint.

I also was at a funeral over the weekend for a local artist. It was a Catholic funeral and all I could think of was how little the proceedings had to do with the deceased. I am a lapsed catholic, so I have had these musings many times. The only thing that saved it was a touching eulogy from a co-worker and the fact that no mention was made of the fact that he was disabled. And yes, some Monk or Kirk would have been welcomed.
