The Stroop Effect

My son's back from art school for Thanksgiving and just turned me on to this neat mental peculiarity. Read the COLOR of the each word, not the word itself:

Feel the wheels of your mind grinding slowly, against each other?

Here's some more on the effect, inlcuding an interesting timed test. Like the author, it took me more than twice as long to read the second list.

The Stroop Effect

My time to read the second list (colors, not words) was only a second a half longer than my time to read the first list. But this was because:

a) At first I didn't realize that in the first list, the colors corresponded to the words, so I was actually reading the colors, not the words. Eventually I figured it out and raced to the end but it was only about half-way through.

b) I had already practiced reading the colors, not words, on this thread! So my results don't count, I think.
