Music Your Kids Turned You On To that You Dig Too

My li'l boy Joe is doing the dishes and playing his Yellowcard CD (medium non-earsplitting loud).

It's not a disc I would have ever bought for myself in a million years, but I enjoy listening to him listening to it. It's pretty fresh breezy youth lyrics with heavy rockin' guitars. Honest good music to my ears.

Anyway, I like Yellowcard but I never would have heard them were it not for my kid.

I'm sure others have similar stories. Dennis often speaks of how his childrens' music has exposed and opened him to current music.

I've enjoyed hearing and learning about these from my son:

Mr. Bungle
Goldie
Aphex Twin
DJ Spooky
DJ Shadow

and from my daughter

Los Lonely Boys
Bad Charlotte

My son has re-introduced me to Classical composers I haven't listened to in years via his performances.

My daughter, well, is still in the growing stage of her musical listening "career."

As far as any music kids consider popular goes...nothing yet.

Since I don't think I have any kids, I would have to say "Having My Baby"

That should be Good Charlotte -- I knew it was one or the other.

I have no kids. I'm only posting this to see if I can get the record for the longest line of uninterrupted posts.

I don't have any kids, but I suspect I am the same age as some of your children, so here goes.

One band I was turned onto recently by some people my age is Modest Mouse. They seem to be getting a bit of oversaturation, which is a shame, because their latest album - Good News For People Who Love Bad News is *wildly* original. One of the best rock albums, start to finish, that I've heard in years. I cannot recommend this album too highly. Check your local record store, cause there's a good chance they'll have it on a listening post.

I agree that's a good album and their earlier one, "The Moon and Antarctica" is just as interesting if a little less accessible.

Excellent choices, all! (well, JT's singles at least ("Cry Me a River", "Senorita", "Rock Ya Body"), I haven't heard the album).
