I think it's because they're hypocrites. These cats take the parts of the Bible or their religion that reinforces their own biases and bigotry and ignore those that don't.
You can quote the 10 Commandments up and down and they'll find some Biblical passage to justify the death penulty. "All men are created equal", yet cats like Falwell used the Bible to justify racial segregation. This shit just goes on and on.
Now lots of pundits are saying the Democratic Party needs to appease these assholes to win national elections. Screw that. If something like that happens I'm gone. I'm a registered Democrat but that'll be the end of that. If you've got to appeal to a group of folks who base their political philosophy on the distrust and hatred of those who are different from them then what does that make you?
