You forgot to establish BEFORE or AFTER Jaco.
Personally I'm not a big fan of Jaco's, but he did change the world for most bass players and opened up the eyes and ears of a lot of people.

Rick--Tommy Flanagan had a line about bebop and the Beatles that I'll adapt for this thread: bass violin is the instrument that was the best choice for jazz before Jaco--and after Jaco.
