Mine?

Hugh Masekela.

Greg Adams or Mic Gillette [Tower of Power] would be a very close second.

The CORRECT answer is ART FARMER...When is he going to get some "respect"? (Otis)...

When are you all "going to get with the programme?"
(Denzil)...

I was just thinking about Kenny's age as I posted that, Sand. The photo was taken in December, 2001 at Chris' Jazz Cafe in Philadelphia, where Patti and I enjoyed a wonderful evening a couple of years ago. He was on a gig with guitarist John Abercrombie and pianist Marc Copland at the time.

A belated Happy Birthday to one of my favorite musicians. I'll spin Gnu High in his honor.

Indeed Kenny does...and there is a concert going out on BBC R3 JAZZ (UK) next Friday...Ck/out their website - available via the web.

BUT...ART FARMER....starting to get angry about this!

The guy was his own and amazing...The Carla Bley material? ...one day you will thank me!

Ok, in the meantime listen to Kenny....a great concert!

Art Farmer--one of the best and, in this thread, certainly the BIGGEST (see photo above)

Thanks RON....AT LAST !!!...now my BP is down to 100 over 70!

I will live...and now sleep like a log...Wake up and start a new life!

Just wanted to get Art some credit...a bit like Kenny Dorham...not flash/but just great taste, emotion, technique, phrases and harmonic twists...which comes from years of playing... often on the edge... personal and musical...and (some) people still miss the point...

Besta..RC/Anna.

Sorry. I love Art Farmer (I didn't realize he was so big!), Freddie Hubbard and Kenny Wheeler. But C.T. wins (and that's not Cecil Taylor).

Funny this should come up as just last night I listened to a stack of Wheeler. I was playing Rambler by Frisell which has some wonderful Wheeler on it. Anyway a friend turned up. heard the title track and started doing backflips around my lounge room when he heard the Wheeler solo. After that I played him some selections.

He woud have my vote anyway but it's doubly reinforced after last nights Wheeler marathon. Yes, Wheeler by a long way.

Last night included selections from-
Rambler
Deer Wan
Angel Song
A Long Time Ago
Around 6
Jumpin' In (Holland)
A Long Time Ago (Abercrombie)
