Mezz Mezzrow

hello.
I'm working on a docmentary on my grandfather's cousin, Mezz Mezzrow. for the last 20 years I've made television for hire.....interesting shows about archaeology, the history of parachutes, profiles on rock musicians and movie stars, lately "Monster Garage" on the Discovery Channel....but now I'm working on something about which I'm connected by blood, and the music I love.

I would like to find and be in contact with anyone who knew and/or played with Mezz.
thanks very much.

I read "Really The Blues" a long time ago and enjoyed it immensely. If you've searched his name, you know that there's all kinds of Milton Mezzrow memorabilia out there. Best of luck with your project!

Mezz Documentary

Hi Tod,

I've actually been working on a film that talks a bit about Mezz. It's not on Mezz per se but it will give a short overview of his life and times. Perhaps we can discuss this more in proper email. Please feel free to contact me, dnewman8@nyc.rr.com

I think Mezz was a cousin of my grandfather, too

I am in Chicago. My grandfather's name was Milton Grosse. Please email me directly. I have read Really the Blues and have always been interested in Mezz's life.

Mezz Mezzrow

French jazz critic Hugues Panassié was a very close friend of Mezzrow. Matter of fact, Mezzrow settled in Paris because Panassié urged him to make the move. Panassié gave him all support he could and also wrote a book titled "Quand Mezzrow enregistre" (or something like that).

Panassé passed away in 1975 but certainly some French jazz buffs can give you more informations about Mezzrow stay in France.
