Finally dug out

We got walloped here this weekend with the snowstorm. Mrs. jmj and me shoveled for hours today, and this afternoon our neighbor was finally able to bust through the snow and plow us an escape route. His plow truck got stuck twice in the process, so we had to dig him out each time. Fortunately, we didn't lose power during the storm, and I was able to watch the Pats dismantle the Steelers last night (woo hoo!).

Here's a few pictures.

Certainly was a doozy. Three feet here in Melrose, and drifts quite a bit taller than that. Two days of school cancelled, so my daughter is psyched.

Still, I'd rather be here than in Pittsburgh!

Glad that all of my JC pals seem to have weathered this storm ok. In all honesty, it looks pretty routine to this old sourdough.

I especially dug the shot of the rather forlorn-looking Simone, jmj.

We're no strangers to large snowstorms, even here on the Cape. This one was accompanied by winds that were near hurricane force, which packed the snow down a bit, making it harder to get through than usual. I've seen lots of pictures of stranded plow trucks. After watching my neighbor attempt to plow my driveway, I can see why. This morning I venture forth to see whether the courts are open, and catch up from being closed yesterday.

The cats haven't gone outside for days.

We got about 20-24 inches up my way in southern New Hampshire. It was all fluffy stuff so it wasn't a problem for the Honda snowblower. I'd hate to be shoveling it though. Even though I only had to shovel the back steps, my back is still killing me.

Later,
Kevin

We got pelted over the weekend. Saturday morning, we had to drive what should have been about 20 minutes away to see one of the kids at her competitive cheerleading meet. The drive took over an hour. At 3:00 AM, there was no snow. By 8:00 AM, there was over 8 inches on the ground.

Her team came in first place, by the way.

We only got 10 inches. I feel like a piker, but, man, I love my little Toro snowblower.

When I was a kid we lived in Raleigh, NC. If it snowed more than an inch, the whole city shut down and people put chains on their tires. You would see them, sparks a-flying, days after the snow was gone, driving around with those chains.

Main roads in the Hyannis area were mostly passable, but many side roads are still very sloppy, and some haven't been plowed at all. Possibility of another 6 inches during the day tomorrow. My neighbor broke trail in the woods yesterday with his cross country skis(sp?), so at least we can have some fun!

We got only moderate snowfall on the 22nd, nothing more than 4 inches. But I had to drive down to Dulles airport with my kid in the back seat at the height of it, which was no fun. My wiper blades froze up and I could see nothing. Barely could see the right exit ramp, but I made it OK. And by the time I made the return trip the conditions were better. Here's the consolation, though: I got to pick up my parents who had just spent ten days with my sister in balmy Miami. Welcome home, folks!

A few more inches of blowing snow last night. When I look out my windows I swear I'm in New Hampshire!
