Smithsonian Folklife Festival 2005

Doesn't look like I'll be rushing down to D.C. this summer.

It's not like this is usually a jazz festival--but if you like world music you can't hear ANYWHERE else it can be quite fascinating. The 2003 program on Mali was quite memorable. Last year the Latin segment had lots of fascinating artists, and I'm sure it will be the case again this year. Oman could also offer some rather interesting possibilities.

OK--the Forest Service stage probably won't be that hot.

BTW, the best act I ever saw at Folklife was not a musician. He was the winner of the Appalachian Liar's Contest.
