Victo 2005

Alright, who's thinking about going?

I'm planning on at least an overnighter and if I can swing it (no pun intended), two days and two nights.

Pete -- I might say the same about it. If I lived in New York!

But I don't. And V-ville is only three hours' drive from my door.

Truly, though, perhaps because it's not in New York or some other such major city, there is much more interaction between fans and musicians and artists there than any other festival I've attended. Probably because there's nothing else to do but that's a large part of what makes it a great gathering of musicians and music people. The bar at the hotel's kind of like what they (used to say about the old) Times Square. If you spend enough time there, you'll run into everyone sooner or later.

I'd have driven up last year just for the JC flying squad/Eskelin/Parkins/Black after-hours hang alone, never mind their hugely enjoyable concert beforehand.

I'm considering it. I've only been to a couple of their festivals and particularly enjoyed hanging out at the hotel bar and restaurant. Can't say that I've ever been able to fully enjoy concerts in the hockey arena though. So far I've heard about the Brotzmann Tentet and a possible Little Huey set, probably both in the arena. There's always the fear that William would be put in the penalty box, two minutes for vamping, or Brotzmann two minutes for illegal use of the taragato. I'd need a few more of interest to me to put me over the edge. It's a really long haul from Detroit.

Yeah, that's basically the point for me. There's always stuff I'd be interested in, but it seems like such a schlep, and lots of the artists do get to the Apple. The food reports have not helped either.

I know that this has been discussed before, but what are the options in getting to Victo from Montreal, assuming that one took a train there?

I saved my complaining until I got back to work the next day. Believe it ot not, I think that Detroit to Victoriaville is even farther, or at least as far. Thank God for car CD players and oldies radio stations. Nothing beats singing along to bad old pop songs on a long boring road.

I know that Hubbub will play there.
French group : Frederic Blondy (piano), Bertrand Denzler (tenor sax), Jean-Luc Guionnet (alto sax), Jean-Sebastien Mariage (guitar), Edward Perraud (percussion).
They have recorded on Four4ears and more recently on Matchless (Hoop Whoop and Hoib).

Frisco -- Perhaps Gordon will chime in. He used the transit services last year, I think, from Montreal. Last year I met a cat who drove from Cleveland, straight on through.

supposedly Thurston Moore is booking a day (I assume Monday?) which involves Wolf Eyes, Hair Police, Dead Machines, Double Leopards, No Neck Blues Band, Dream Aktion Unit. also the Boredoms are supposed to be there.

Pity that they never post the actual timetable--if all of the most interesting gigs were on one day I might go, but if they're spread out.......

They usually post the timetable around mid-April. That said, the chances of all the most interesting gigs being on one day is pretty slim. (Of course I'm not sure what you consider the most interesting gigs to be...)

since Thurston Moore is supposedly booking a "day" of the festival, and not just shows here and there, the educated guess would be that that would be Monday, and would encompass Wolf Eyes, Hair Police, No Neck, Dead Machines, Double Leopards, and possibly the Dream Aktion Unit (although that looks like a Saturday or Sunday night 8 PM special). that would/will be likely the wildest day of shows in Victo history.

Boredoms date confirmed

The Boredoms are listed as being officially on the 23rd (Monday) - so this is probably the "noise" day. Anyone else know any confirmed dates for the announced shows?

"noise" not all on one day

I figured that would probably be part of the day someone said
Thurston Moore is curating, but since the Boredoms is May 23rd, looks
like stuff like the NNBB (May 21), Wolf Eyes, Double Leapords, Boredoms will be spread across different days. Now if someone knew when Anthony Braxton was playing....
