Cool! I'll try to listen. He's a super fellow and easily, imho, one of the most interesting saxophonists around. Please say hello to him for me if you remember.

John IS a super person and very interesting saxophonist. In fact quite brilliant. (my attempt at trying to sound British). I was so pissed off last year, prior to a Chicago performance, Kevin Whitehead referred to John as reminding him of "Evan Parker with asthma".
I pulled out the old Random Acoustics record, "Spellings" by the group Frisques Concordance today. John with Georg Graewe, Hannes Schneider, and Martin Blume. Excellent record.

Butcher has a new solo disc on fringes that includes several astounding pieces involving sax and controlled (and I mean controlled ) feedback.

Of course I find this thread and link AFTER the show is over; but I'll try to catch Frisco's show next Sunday.
Do you guys have any Butcher recs; I've got 12 Milagritos and Music on 7 Occasions. both of which I like fine. I just have the feeling that theres other stuff out there that would really have a disk 2 of Laminal impact on me. I've heard a sample of an awesome multitracked piece that is on a European Improvisers site that really got my attention; any idea what that's from?

Captain, you haven't missed the show. It's coming up this Tuesday night, about 8pm EST. My program, "Spirits Rejoice" is an avant-jazz show and airs every Tuesday from 7-10pm. I also alternate weeks for "Delusions & Furies", Sundays from Noon-3pm, more of an all emcompassing avant-garde program including classical, free-impov, electronic, etc.... That's probably what you're thinking of.

Cap, you should get "Requests and Antisongs" with Phil Durrant on electronics on Erstwhile. I also really dig his album with Phil Durrant (strictly on violin) and John Russel (guitar) on Eminem. He has two other ones by this group, but I've never heard them.

'Super' will do, but if it's British middle class you want, the word you're really looking for is 'splendid'.

Well, he's a splendid fellow too.
David, I'm depending on you to give me translations of the titles from Rhodri Davies' "Trem"!

Cresis; Undur; Trem; Beres; Plosif; Berant; Atam.
Well first, a confession: I speak very little Welsh. My partner speaks a fair bit, but between both of us and the dictionary we don't know any of these words except 'trem' (noun: view) and maybe beres (possibly 'to make happen'). 'Undur', I think, is an old English spelling of 'under'.
They all look like plausible Welsh words, but my guess is he's playing a little game, and has made them up.
Thankyou, though, for making me aware of this artist and album. I hate the sound of the harp, played traditionally, but this sounds interesting.

For Butcher recordings I would recommend:
Concert moves (Random Acoustics) -- This is my favorite recording of the awsome Butcher/Durrant/Russell trio. I think it is still in print, but if not, their trio on Emanem is almost as good.
Vortices and angels (Emanem) -- Great duos with Derek Bailey and Rhodri Davies. They are quite different from each other but make a good pair.
Navigations (Acta) -- Butcher plays in integral role in Chris Burn's Ensemble. Burn is creating some of the mosts compelling integration of free improvisation and composition (which is a bit of an oxymoron, but it is the end of the day and I'm not feeling too eloquent at the moment.)
The contest of pleasures (Potlatch) This trio by Butcher/Charles/Dörner isn't quite as jaw-dropping as their performance at Victo a few years back, but is still well worth checking out.
Also, pick up the new release on Fringes if you can find it!!!!

1. You should all stop trying to sound British.
2. Try 'Bloody nice bloke' instead of 'super'.
3. Yes, fixations is good.

Thanks for all the rec's; I'll add them to my to-get list right behind "Digger's Harvest".
Thanks, Pat for setting me straight on when your show is; must've been that Yellow Snow Ale on top of sinus maladies to cause perceptive difficulties. Glad to hear you have a Sunday afternoon show also; the college stations here on Sunday play some of the most bland, unedgy stuff imaginable.

Up! I can't wait to hear one of my main men! Thanks for letting everyone know about this, Pat Frisco. There's supposedly a local violinist that will play prior to John.

Hi. Hope you were able to get the internet feed and enjoy the performance.
Only a few minor glitches. Not bad for a part-time volunteer broadcaster, I guess.
But the music sounded great coming across the radio, as far as I know.
Did anyone catch the last piece, when Mike Khoury joined John and Jerry? I thought he did an excellent job.
And I hope you enjoyed the room ambience between sets as I played the new Bauer/Kowald/Sommer CD with the mics still on in the room (sorry!!).

I was right: I ordered it from Sound323 today, and they said Rhodri invented them. Cool words though - a cunning linguist, I suppose.
