A Great Rock Camp for 13-17 year olds

Hi, gang--

I've just signed on to be an instructor at a very cool rock camp called SoundCheckWest this August. If you have kids 13-17 who are playing either bass, guitar, drums or keys in a rock band--or would like to--this is something you might consider.

It's a live-in, 5-day program on the campus of UCSD. The website is www.soundcheckwest.com. I'll be instructing the keyboard master classes, and also sitting in on the "Rock Insights" panel where we'll discuss everything from how to get gigs to producing and releasing your own CD. There will be numerous bands formed during the time and rehearsals every day culminating in a huge blow-out concert in Downtown San Diego on the final night.

The other instructors are all ouststanding players and all-around musicians, as well as experts from Digidesign (ProTools) who will be teaching recording techniques.

It's not exactly cheap, but it's a very good value imo. I'm quite pumped and proud to be a part of it all. If you have any questions that aren't answered on the website, feel free to ask!

Best,

Doug

You should definitely have them learn Alice Cooper's "Eighteen."

Yo'll teach how to roll a fatty, proper bong etiquette, head-banging, and stage diving, right?

Looks fun, but we're 3000 miles away. Is there a SoundCheck East?

I'm sure most kids today don't need my help in rolling techniques!

Boris, I don't know about the East coast alternatives, but I'll bet there are some excellent ones. I think this kind of thing is really exciting, to have kids in a structured immersive learning experience. They'll be playing all day long, all week long.

I have a friend in Rehobeth, Delaware who does a Rock'n Roll camp every summer. He's a local elementary school music teacher and free-lance guitarist. Contact me offline if you want info.

Good luck Doug ..you're gonna have an interesting experience!

there's nothing like trying to explain stuff to kids to keep you on your toes ..and show you how much stuff one does is hard to explain!
