Jazz Festival 2005 Recommendations in Europe

Hi Everyone!

I would like to go to a festival in Europe this summer and would like some recommendations. I have already decided that I don't want to go to North Sea Jazz Fest though. I want to go to one that is alittle bit smaller than that one, somewhere where it is really beautiful along with some great jazz. I've thought about Switzerland & Italy. Any insights & suggestions would b maaavelous!

Thanks!

I think you might like Umbria. It's generally straight-ahead, and not as much of an overload as North Sea--it's spread over more than a week. The advantage is that it's in Umbria, which is wonderful. Perugia, where the festival is, is very nice, and there are lots of easy, great day trips. In addition to the big main concerts, there are late night events at smaller venues, and free events in the street. It's July 8-17 this year.

Stay away from Montreux--there's very little jazz, and it's over-commercialized.
