What, only 10? Heck, I can do that off the top of my head. Does it matter whether the pianist is left-handed or whether he or she weighed at least 180 pounds on the recording date?

I was listening to one this morning. David Murray Octet Plays Trane.
But, Mone, you must be more specific: must they be between 45 & 60 now, or whenever the album was recorded?

Mone, I think there's a rule that if you start a top 10 thread, you must post your top 10. We're waiting.

I lied. I can't do it--at least, not off the top of my head.

I would play my own game except I'm completely lost as far as how old certain musicians are and when the exact release dates were.
But Dennis, since you actually completed the last round, I'll let you come up with some criteria for a top ten list and I'll do my best to play. Go for it.

Let me give everybody some hints...
1) go to any search engine and look up a musician's official website, then go to the bio section and look up the birthday. They may even have a discography and personnel listing and date of release.
2) go to the Penguin, All Music, or any other encyclopedia of jazz and it'll have birthdates, personnel on albums, and date of release. Look up your faves, especially if you have an idea as to their age, and then fan out from there infowise!
Let me think of some criteria fuh a Top Ten list, and I'll see what I can do!

I'm too old to know this shit off the top of my head! I have to cheat! I even had to look up how old I am!
Besides, I know very few people who can accurately do it off the top of the Ukranium!

Okay, playing my own game, and just to add a degree of difficulty, I won't select any of the artists Dennis or NL picked--here are ten of the better following my criteria:
Howard Alden (45) TAKE YOUR PICK, pianist Renee Rosnos, 1996
Geri Allen (45) THE GATHERING, pianist Geri Allen, 1998
Anthony Braxton (57) FOUR COMPOSITIONS (QUARTET) 1984, pianist Marilyn Crispell, 1984
Willem Breuker (58) HEIBEL, pianist Henk deJonge, 1990
Baikida Carroll (55) SHADOWS AND REFLECTIONS, pianist Anthony Davis, 1982
Phillip Catherine (60) LIVE, pianist Bert Van den Brink, 1996
Elton Dean (57) RUMOURS OF AN INCIDENT, pianist Alex Maguire, 1996
Barry Guy (55) GRYFFGRYFFGRYFFS, pianist Marilyn Crispell, 1996
David Murray (47) MING, pianist Anthony Davis, 1980
Evan Parker (58) 50TH BIRTHDAY CONCERT, pianist Alexander von Schlippenbach, 1994
Tomasz Stanko (60) LEOSIA, pianist Bobo Stenson, 1994
Okay, that was eleven, but I probably screwed up on the ages or recording dates somewhere...

I assumed that both Dennis González and Vigleik Storaas were 5-6 years older than they actually are. Vigleik Storaas will be 40 this year, and Dennis González will be 49 some time this year.
